The trailer for Gamer has been released, and it looks nothing like the original leaked teaser we saw some time back, no this looks much, much better, and that was something I thought was a pretty tough thing to begin with.
The film from Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, the guys behind Crank (Filmstalker review) and the upcoming sequel, stars Gerard Butler as a death row inmate who is part of a huge multiplayer online game where other people control real humans and fight in real death match arenas. Sounds incredible, and that’s what it looks like too.
The concept for Gamer is great, but here the new trailer tells us something new. Sure Gerard Butler’s character of Kabel wants to escape, but he realises pretty soon that he’s got to get the person controlling him to let him go free in order to win, and he does start winning.
If he wins ten games in a row, he’s a free man, and on the outside his wife is waiting for him. However the controllers of the game don’t seem that keen to let him go.
The film also stars Milo Ventimiglia, Michael C. Hall, John Leguizamo, Alison Lohman, Amber Valletta, Keith David, Kyra Sedgwick, Zoe Bell and Ludacris to name but a few. Oh, and judging from the trailer it looks fantastic.
I almost forgot, the name change too. It’s gone from Game to Gamer, which I find interesting since it puts the emphasis on the person controlling the characters rather than the characters themselves, something the trailer shows the exact opposite of.
