November 19, 2024 | How to Train Your Dragon (Live Action) News

Hiccup and Toothless are finally in live-action for the first time ever.

Universal Studios has released the first trailer for its live-action adaptation of “How to Train Your Dragon,” after the popular DreamWorks Animation trilogy was released in the 2010s. The new movie flies into theaters on June 13.

The live-action version includes many of the original characters played by new faces. Among these are Mason Thames (“The Black Phone”) as Hiccup, Nico Parker (“Dumbo,” “The Last of Us”) as Astrid and Julian Dennison (“Deadpool 2”) as Fishlegs Ingerman. Gerard Butler plays Hiccup’s father Stoick the Vast, after the voiced the character in the animated trilogy.

The trailer introduces Hiccup, Stoick and Toothless, who look exactly like their animated counterparts. As part of his viking training, Hiccup is instructed to go out and kill a dragon, but instead he befriends the adorable dragon Toothless.

Dean DeBlois, who wrote and directed all three animated “How to Train Your Dragon” movies, has the same responsibilities for the live-action movie. The DreamWorks movies included the original “How to Train Your Dragon” in 2010, “How to Train Your Dragon 2” in 2014 and “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World” in 2019. Based on the book series by Cressida Cowell, the movies follow a young man named Hiccup who stumbles upon a trapped, injured dragon that he befriends, trains and eventually names Toothless. The storyline is set on the Isle of Berk, which houses a group of vikings. The franchise also includes three TV series, theme park rides, and a live show, “How to Train Your Dragon on Ice.” Overall, the series has generated more than $1.6 billion worldwide.
