A spinoff series to Gerard Butler’s 2013 action thriller Olympus Has Fallen will expand the film franchise into television. Paris Has Fallen will feature a brand new cast of characters but will begin a new chapter of the Has Fallen action franchise that began with Butler’s now-classic film. Olympus Has Fallen also starred Aaron Eckhart, Angela Bassett, Cole Hauser, Melissa Leo, Dylan McDermott, and Morgan Freeman. The film received mixed reviews from critics and a Rotten Tomatoes score of 50%.
There are currently four movies in the Has Fallen franchise: Olympus (2013), London (2016), Angel (2019), and the upcoming Night Has Fallen, which has not been given a release date at the time of writing. While Paris Has Fallen is a part of the larger franchise, it will be the first Has Fallen installment that will not star Gerard Butler. Butler still plans to star in two additional Has Fallen films after Night and is currently the only actor to appear in every film thus far besides Morgan Freeman’s Allan Trumbull character.
Gerard Butler Is Not Starring In Paris Has Fallen
He still plans to star in three upcoming Has Fallen films
Even though Butler will not be starring in the first televised series in the Has Fallen series, he still plays a major role in the series behind the scenes. Deadline originally reported that there was a chance he would have a cameo back in May 2023, but that remains a rumor until the series releases in late September 2024. The first episode of Paris Has Fallen will premiere on September 23, 2024, and will have a total of seven episodes. The series will stream on Canal+ in France and Prime Video in the UK.
Butler appears to be expanding his Has Fallen franchise into international markets through the serial Paris Has Fallen, which could be the first of several Has Fallen installments made specifically for television. Paris Has Fallen will star Ben Addis, Tewfik Jallab, Ritu Arya, and Sean Harris. The series was written for television by Howard Overman (Misfits, War of the Worlds, Vexed), directed by Oded Ruskin and Hans Herbots, and filmed in Paris and London.
Gerard Butler’s Involvement In Paris Has Fallen Explained
Butler serves as an executive producer on the series
Butler will not be starring in Paris Has Fallen although he serves as the series’ executive producer. His production company G-Base is co-producing the show along with StudioCanal, one of the largest film production and distribution companies in France. Canal+ is the exclusive streaming platform of StudioCanal, which is why the series is only streaming on that platform for the time being. Altogether, the Has Fallen franchise has grossed $522 million at the worldwide box office across three installments, indicating that Paris Has Fallen may find streaming success in Fall 2024 and expand the franchise further.
