‘John Wick’ Actor Michael Nyqvist Joins Gerard Butler in ‘Hunter Killer’ (Exclusive)

July 20, 2016 | Hunter Killer News

The Swedish actor will appear alongside Gary Oldman, Common and Billy Bob Thorton in the submarine action film.
Michael Nyqvist has joined the cast of the submarine-set action-thriller Hunter Killer.

The actor will play Captain Sergi Andropoyov in the Donovan Marsh-directed movie. The cast is headed up by Gerard Butler, with Gary Oldman, Common and Billy Bob Thorton also set to star.

Based on the novel Firing Point by George Wallace and Don Keith, Hunter Killer is set below the polar ice cap and centers on a submarine commander who teams with a group of U.S. Navy SEALs to rescue the Russian president that has been kidnapped by a rogue general. It is up to the untested submarine commander and his crew to keep Russia and the U.S. from the brink of a nuclear confrontation.

Hunter Killer was caught in limbo when Relativity Media, which was originally set to finance the feature, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. But production is now back on track, with Millennium Films (Expendables) now producing the project with Neal Moritz and Toby Jaffe of Original Film (Fast 8). Former Relativity president Tucker Tooley is also producing through his Tooley Productions, along with Alan Siegel.

Hunter Killer is set to begin filming this week in London.

Nyqvist is best know in his native Sweden for starring in the original Girl With the Dragon Tattoo trilogy. Stateside, the actor starred opposite Keanu Reeves in 2014’s cult action-thriller John Wick as the film’s resident bad guy.

Recently, Nyqvist appeared in the 2016 Sundance selection Frank and Lola, which starred Michael Shannon and Imogen Poots and was picked up for distribution by Universal. He will be seen opposite Pierce Brosnan in John Moore’s I.T.

Nyqvist is repped by ICM Partners, Authentic Talent, Sweden’s Agentfirman and Felker Toczek.
