EXCLUSIVE: Hunter Killer, the Gerard Butler-Gary Oldman action drama that got stalled by Relativity’s plunge into Chapter 11, has a new director and a start date from Millennium Films. iNumber Number director Donovan Marsh has taken the helm, and a July 25 start date has been set in London. Original Film’s Neal Moritz and Toby Jaffe — who fought to extricate the film from Relativity when its production start was stalled while Martin Campbell was directing — is producing with Butler, Tooley Productions CEO Tucker Tooley, Alan Siegel, and Mark Gill.

Peter Craig and Jamie Moss wrote the script based on the George Wallace and Don Keith novel Firing Point, and the film is an action thriller about an American submarine commander sent deep in Russian waters to save the elected Russian president in the midst of a military coup. Butler opens Friday in London Has Fallen. The executive producers are Avi Lerner, Douglas Urbanski, Trevor Short, John Thompson, Matt O’Toole, Les Weldon, Boaz Davidson, and Christine Otal.

Marsh’s iNumber Number premiered at the 2013 Toronto Film Festival, where Universal Pictures bought the remake rights. The film won Best Director, Best Writer and Best Editing at the South African Film Awards. Marsh most recently adapted Pulitzer Prize-winning author Anthony Doerr’s short story Memory Wall into a feature he’ll direct with Nick Wechsler producing. Marsh is repped by ICM Partners and Hansen Jacobson.
