Leven Rambin has been tapped for the female lead in Curtis Hanson’s “Mavericks” alongside Gerard Butler and Jonny Weston.

“Mavericks,” based on the true story of Jay Moriarty’s rise to the forefront of big wave surfing, is in pre-production, with Walden Media producing.

Leven will play a California surfer girl who is Moriarty’s best friend and the object of his adoration. Weston will play Moriarty, and Gerard Butler is portraying Rick “Frosty” Hesson.

Curtis Hanson (“L.A. Confidential,” “8 Mile”‘) will direct from a screenplay by Kario Salem and Hooper. Hanson, Brandon Hooper and Jim Meenaghan are producing.

Moriarty sought to ride the iconic Northern California break known as Mavericks, where winter swells bring in treacherous waves the size of five-story buildings, and trained for more than a year under Hesson.

Moriarty died in 2001 in a diving accident in the Maldive Islands.

Rambin’s credits include “The Hunger Games” “All My Children,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “CSI Miami,” “One Tree Hill” and “Wizards of Waverly Place.”

Leven is repped by Mimi Wexler of the Schiff Co., CAA and attorney Harris Hartman.
