Gamer Movie Review (Blog)

September 30, 2009 | Gamer Reviews, Uncategorized

At first glance, this film may not appeal to the general public due to the title. I mean come on, Gamer should be all about shooting and killing and it should only be entertaining for the gaming enthusiast, right?

Not really.

In fact, what makes Gamer worth watching is because behind the amount of gore and violence and adult content, the story makes viewers ponder the possibility of a future where people are consumed by interactive media and technology (not to mention Gerard Butler being the main protagonist). Morals and values are thrown down the drain in a world where anything is possible. Nanobots are real and are currently being developed for the medical, industrial and commercial purposes.

Some people may call this movie stupid and absurd (I can’t believe Rotten Tomatoes gave it a “Rotten” rating), but everybody has a different opinion when it comes to movies like Gamer, which may overload its viewers a little too much with time-lapse shots and exaggerating scenes. Don’t blame Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor’s directing nor Gerard Butler’s great acting; just go watch this movie with an open mind and maybe a pinch of salt and you’ll survive the game.
