EAST Ayrshire Council has become the first subscriber to pledge its support for a new film production on the life and works of Rabbie Burns.
Scotland’s First Minster, Alex Salmond MSP, launched the new appeal at the official Homecoming Burns Supper which was held in Alloway at the weekend.
Councillor Douglas Reid, leader of East Ayrshire Council said: “This is a unique opportunity for us to invest in the much anticipated feature film on the bard’s life.
“This is where Burns’ early works were first published, as the Kilmarnock Edition, and as such, it is highly appropriate that East Ayrshire Council has made the first contribution to this venture.
“I am delighted that elements of the filming will take place in East Ayrshire; the area has some of the strongest links with Burns and his early life as a farmer and poet. The area will benefit greatly from this portrayal on the big screen.â€
