It was stuck in THE MIST for Matt but you can finally find out what Frank Darabont is directing next!
This completely missed my radar last week and I’ve only found out about it now because of a brief blurb in an MTV article – of all places.
The news broke last week that Frank Darabont – the amazing director of The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile and most recently The Mist, has signed on to direct Law Abiding Citizen, the thriller which marks the first movie from the new production company (Evil Twins) setup by Gerard Butler.
The movie will see Darabont return to his familiar prison theme…
Production is set to begin on August 18 in Detroit on the low-$40m range story of a criminal mastermind who controls a city from the confines of his prison cell. Butler will play the prosecutor who stands in his way.
The very early poster for the film was shipped around Cannes…
The screenplay comes from Kurt Wimmer (Equilibrium, The Recruit) and will only be the second time Darabont has not directed a movie from his own screenplay, and also only the second time a film from Darabont is not based upon a Stephen King story.
Frank Darabont is one of the absolute best directors around right now, put him in there with Gerard Butler – a very non Darabont-like lead and you got yourselves a fascinating project here.
My ticket is sold, love to see what a down and dirty Darabont movie looks like!
