Catherine Zeta-Jones will star in an untitled romantic comedy for the Film Department, with Bart Freundlich directing from his own script. Shooting starts April 17 on the Process production.

Tim Perell, Freundlich, Mark Gill and Robert Katz are producing; Neil Sacker and Michael Goguen exec produce. Lori Keith Douglas is co-producer.

New York City-set story concerns a 25-year-old man and his new neighbor — an older single mother who catches more than his eye.

The Film Department Intl., led by newly appointed president Steve Bickel, will be unveiling the project at Cannes along with “Law Abiding Citizen,” a thriller starring Gerard Butler that will start lensing in the summer.

Gill and Sacker founded the Film Department in July as an independent movie finance, production and international sales company with a $200 million capitalization. The company plans to fully finance and produce six films annually with budgets between $10 million and $45 million.
