It has been reported that director Len Wiseman (Live Free or Die Hard) is in talks with New Line Cinema to develop and direct two big movies. One, a big screen adaptation of the popular X-Box 360 game Gears Of War and the other, an Escape from New York remake.
New Line Cinema purchased the rights to make a Gears of War film earlier this year, with Collateral, and Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pear screenwriter Stuart Beattie writing the script alongside Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey who will produce. New Line announced that the film would hit theatres in 2009.

The popular X-Box game Gears of War has sold over three million units worldwide since November, making the fourth best selling game of last year.
The game is now a staple in the online gameplay world of Xbox Live. The game follows the soldiers of Delta Squad as they ‘fight to save the human inhabitants of the fictional planet Sera from a relentless subterranean enemy known as The Locust Horde.’
A week previous to their announcement the studio also told us their plans to remake John Carpenter’s 1981 action classic Escape From New York with Gerard Butler (300) attached. Butler will play Snake Plissken, the one-eyed convict who has to rescue the President of the United States from an inescapable maximum prison which was formally known as Manhattan. Ken Nolan, the writer for Black Hawk Down, will be penning the script.
It seems Wiseman has found his place as a fantastic action genre. Underworld and it’s sequel were brilliant and his latest action movie, Live Free of Die Hard has so far made $302.4 million worldwide.
No wonder Hollywood has every confidence in his next two big movies!
