Movie Q&A: Inspiring mystery singer named

October 20, 2005 | Dear Frankie News, Uncategorized

Q: I saw a preview on a rented movie for a film about a mother who tells her son his father is at sea on a certain boat and writes a letter to him from the supposed father. When this boat is supposed to come home she has to come up with a father, so she hires one. I think the name of the movie was “The Letter,” and I think it starred Clive Owen. I have not seen anything about this film; do you know how I can find out about it? _ A. in Utah.

A: Sure, I know how you can find out about it. You can ask me. The movie that has you perplexed is “Dear Frankie,” which starred Emily Mortimer and Gerard Butler, who audiences will remember from last year’s “Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera.” “Dear Frankie” is one of those imported hidden gems that comes from across the pond on a regular basis that no one here bothers to seek out. It was a sweet, entertaining film that was good for a tear or two, especially from those such as me who grew up without a father in their lives. You’ll be happy to know that you should be able to saunter down to your local video store and rent it. It was released over the summer. Hope this helps.
