South Korean buyer CM Entertainment has snapped up two films from LA-based production and sales company The Film Department – serial killer thriller Law Abiding Citizen and rom-com The Rebound.
“A lot of buyers from our territory were interested. Thrillers are the trend in Korea these days, and we snapped up Law Abiding Citizen on that basis, as well as on the script and the star of the film, Gerald Butler,” said Thomas Kim, president of CM. The film is to be directed by Frank Darabont.
Bart Freundlich’s The Rebound stars Catherine Zeta-Jones and Justin Bartha. “Romantic comedies do well in Korea as well, and it’s hard to find a good one,” said Kim.
CM Entertainment previous pick-ups include Wong Kar-wai’s My Blueberry Nights (with Showbox), and Rambo IV. Its upcoming slate also includes Cannes opener Blindness.
