Wrath of Gods is an challenging exploration into the rigors of film making as seen through the riotous production of 2005s Beowulf and Grendel (not to be confused with Henry M. Robert Zemeckis forthcoming motion conquer adaptation of the same famed narration). The action is shown from the perspective of an extra in the film, a bystander whose on adjust video journal would show window a ostensibly doomed production. There were so many unforseen disasters on set (a gondola crash involving a member of the crew, dwindling away finances, a leaky property boat, etc.), that if it all didnt rattling happen, I never would have believed it.
Through it all, Beowulf and Grendel music director Sturla Gunnarsson remains relatively affable as does his spirited mold headed by a playful Gerard Butler (Phantom of the Opera, 300) and the talented Stellan Skarsgard. (Good Will Hunting, Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Mans Chest). Miraculously, Beowulf and Grendel did live an intense production schedule and piece the film didnt very go on to enjoy domestic box office success, thats scarcely the point. Through all the unforseen crap, Gunnarsson and crew finished the job. The same couldnt be said for the brilliant Terrycloth Gilliam world Health Organization never was able to see his “The Man WHO Killed Don Quixote” adaptation come to life (that story is brilliantly displayed in the similarly themed documentary Lost in La Mancha – which Butler playfully references in this film).
Documentaries like Missed in La Mancha and the entertaining if a trifle pitiful Wrath of Gods make me wonderment how whatever film always gets completed. I deliver yet to see Beowulf and Grendel, but after watching Anger of Gods, you privy bet Ill check it out presently. Perhaps actress Sarah Polley sums it up best “The only thing honestly I can compare it to is ‘The Adventures of Baron Manchuasen’ when I was 8 and that was I mean 3 times harder than this. Simply nothings have come shut until this, in damage of but sheer, mad ambition.” Wrath of Gods volition be playing at the Red Stone Film Fete in Springdale, UT this November. Wrath of Gods is a fantastic documentary giving us insite into the world of pic making. I enjoyed every last hour of this film. What a great blend of drama and humor, gift us great entertainment. The DVD has some wondrous extras. This is what a documentary should be!!!!
