FILM writer Andrea Gibb is celebrating today after two of her films were showered with Scottish BAFTA nominations.
Dear Frankie, which was shot in Greenock and Gourock last year, is up for three awards at the glittering ceremony, the equivalent of Scotland’s Oscars.
And Andrea’s first film Afterlife has been nominated for four awards.
Dear Frankie, starring Emily Mortimer and Gerard Butler, is up for best director, best first time performance and audience awards.
Andrea has been put forward for the best screenplay award for Afterlife which is also nominated for best first time director, best first time performance and an audience award.
Provost Ciano Rebecchi is delighted Andrea’s work is being hailed by the biggest names in the movie industry.
“It is absolutely brilliant that Andrea Gibb and her films have been nominated,” he told the Telegraph.
“It shows talents in the area are now being recognised.
“She must feel really great to be recognised by people in her own profession. If Dear Frankie gets an award it will be great for Inverclyde.”
Dear Frankie is due to be released in the UK in January and the film-makers have had praise heaped upon them since it was shown at the Cannes Film Festival at the start of the summer.
It received a 15-minute standing ovation at the festival and was well-liked by critics.
Andrea, the actors and director Shona Auerbach have been travelling the world for the last few months, showing the film at festivals acrosss America and Europe.
It has been given an ‘official selection’ honour at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York and festivals in Chicago, Denver, Vancouver, Toronto, Los Angeles, Boston and Edinburgh.
Andrea will be rubbing shoulders with some of Scotland’s biggest names on BAFTA night including Young Adam star Ewan McGregor and Kevin McKidd.
The winners will be announced at a ceremony in Glasgow on 14 November, which is being hosted by Lorraine Kelly.
